Hope Thomas was a yoga instructor with a 1 1/2-year-old son and a $400,000 inheritance when she met Alexander Wright shortly after his release from federal prison in 2005. Wright was an accomplished con man whose previous targets included banks and the U.S. government.

It was a relationship destined to end badly. Today, Thomas, who invested and lost most of her money with Wright in what was supposed to be a 10-day loan, isn't sure how she will pay the bills for herself and her young son, Noah. Local prosecutors decided not to file charges in her case because it was a loan.

But Thomas is just one of many who say they've been conned by Wright who was involved in everything from land deals to a Key West restaurant to, most recently, an Indialantic construction company, Southern Building Systems, according to county and state records. He also has a criminal record stretching back to 1979. It includes:


•A 10-year sentence in federal court in Georgia in 1986 for his part in a check-kiting ring that preyed on banks in three states. Wright served two years and seven months before being paroled.


•An indictment in August in U.S. District Court in Orlando on 42 counts of bank fraud for allegedly scamming Brevard County banks out of more than $1.5 million in another check-kiting scheme. He was released on bond later that month and is next due in court Nov. 16.


•Allegations in federal court records in Orlando that he ran a Ponzi scheme that bilked local professionals out of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Thomas, who spent Thanksgiving and Christmas last year with Wright, said she had trouble believing that the friend who talked about making her a beneficiary of his life insurance policy would take the money she had counted on to guarantee her son's financial future.

"I thought he might have this history . . . but he wouldn't steal from Noah," said Thomas who met Wright through a friend. "No way. He wouldn't take all of Noah's money."

Her disbelief is echoed by Wright's other investors and associates, who said they liked the gregarious man who charmed his way into investors' lives and portfolios with flowers and financial advice. Wright, who uses a wheelchair, seemed to have overcome the traffic accident that left him partially paralyzed at age 16.

Not everyone is surprised.

"I never saw so many angry people," said Nancy Harrington, who briefly worked as a receptionist for Wright's company last summer. "All day long, the only calls I got were disgruntled: 'Where is my money?' It was embarrassing to even work there. One time a woman came in so upset that everyone ran in their offices and locked their doors."

Wright has lived in a duplex owned by his brother since his release from the Orange County Jail on the check-kiting indictment. Another man answered the door recently, and Wright rolled up in his wheelchair before rebuffing a FLORIDA TODAY reporter's questions. He smiled.

"Have a good day," Wright said before slamming the door.

Brevard beginnings
The last day that Wright, now 50, would be able to walk was July 28, 1973, same day as the launch of the Skylab II space mission. As friends tell it, he was driving on the Melbourne causeway when he went off the road and hit an Australian pine. Four days earlier, he had been cited for driving while intoxicated, state records show.

Wright lived with his widowed mother. And a former classmate remembers Wright hosting parties at the house. His father, Andrew, who had been a lieutenant colonel at Patrick Air Force Base, died in 1972.

"He was a wild child," high school classmate Lynn Lorusso remembered of Wright.

The accident fractured Wright's spine, paralyzing him from the chest down. Friends visited him in the hospital where he talked about recovering and becoming a lawyer someday.

Wright resumed his studies at Melbourne High in 1974, but the district doesn't have any record of his graduation. The closest Wright came to practicing law was writing motions representing himself in at least one of his own criminal cases.

He did not succeed at it. Wright served time for weapons possession and conspiracy to commit bank fraud in the 1980s in Georgia.

Later, he started a construction company called A.W. & Associates in Florida and used it to bilk the U.S. Air Force and subcontractors out of more than $490,000 in a $4.2 million contract at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa in 1992 and 1993, court records show.
He later lied about his assets when the company went bankrupt, according to court records. Wright was convicted in Panama City in 1995 of concealing assets from bankruptcy court and later pleaded guilty to mail fraud and money laundering in Tampa. He was sentenced to 45 months and 13 days.

In the middle of his Florida criminal cases, Wright moved to Oregon where he bought half-ownership in a small wheelchair company that he helped run even after he was sent to prison on the Florida charges.

The company sold elevator lifts to handicapped customers and churches but never delivered them, and at least $11 million was missing or owed to creditors, according to reports in The (Portland) Oregonian, which cited judgments, tax liens and police estimates.

During his involvement with the company, Wright was freed from prison and violated the terms of his release by leaving Oregon without permission and running up bills in the thousands to take chartered jets to Las Vegas, California and Florida, according to court records.

From Oregon, Wright moved to Pennsylvania in 2001. There, he persuaded others to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars with him -- in what they thought was the stock market -- before Wright fled town in a limousine, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

His most recent stint in U.S. prison was a 14-month sentence for violating his supervised release from the federal cases in Florida.

"He's been doing this for a long time," said Timothy Knapp, the Pennsylvania state trooper who arrested Wright. "He's not a rookie."

Regardless of who was behind it, the check-kiting scheme described in the August indictment would have required skill and sophistication.

Bank-fraud indictment
The brochures for Florida Business Bank tout it as "Brevard's only business bank for solutions that mean business." The bank's single branch, near the banks of the Indian River in Melbourne, ranked 15th among Brevard County's commercial banks this year with about $115 million in deposits.

In 60 days, from March 27 to May 25, Wright deposited $7.86 million in bad checks at the bank, ultimately costing the bank more than $1.3 million, court documents show. The amounts don't match up, as they usually don't in check-kiting scams, as Wright allegedly deposited bad checks among accounts to try to keep the kite going as long as possible. Bank of America, another bank where Wright had accounts, lost about $227,000, according to court records.

A Florida Business Bank account at the center of the check-kiting scheme was set up in the name of Southern Building Systems. The federal indictment also lists an account set up in the name of MBA Investment Group.

Wright deposited about $5.3 million in the SBS account, checks that were worthless because stop-payment orders were issued on them, court documents show. Wright allegedly took advantage of the "float time" between when the checks were deposited and when Florida Business Bank learned of the stop-payment orders. In the interim, Wright fraudulently wrote checks and made wire transfers, the indictment says.

The money appears to have gone to pay off past problems, court records show. The wire transfers from the SBS account include $200,000 for a margin trading account in the name of Andrew Wright, Wright's older brother, at a commodities futures broker. The account had monthly losses as high as $317,462, according to court records. Andrew Wright also initially was charged in the check-kiting scheme, but charges against him have been dropped.A $280,000 wire transfer from an MBA Investment Group account at Florida Business Bank went to a bank in Uniontown, Pa., where most of it apparently was applied to court-ordered restitution to a Uniontown man.

Brevard County investor Mike Russell said he had warned Florida Business Bank President Daryl Bishop about Wright in March, about the time that the alleged check kiting started, after he talked with one of Wright's previous investors. He said he asked Bishop if the bank had done a criminal background check on Wright.

"I said, 'I'm not going to do business with the Wright brothers. . . . For me, they're the wrong people,'" Russell said. "He said that wasn't their normal operation or procedure. I said, 'Well, just beware.' "

Bishop wouldn't comment about Wright. Bill Koehne, the chief operating officer of Florida Business Bank, said the bank has changed its procedures because of the check-kiting scheme but wouldn't say how.
"The kite did not affect us financially," Koehne said.

New connections
Despite Wright's past, he was able to charm his way into new connections when he got out of prison and returned to his hometown. And he solicited unwitting investors into what court documents call "a suspected Ponzi scheme."

Realtor Diane McConnell loaned Alexander and Andrew Wright $200,000 in 2006. Orthopedic surgeon Jeffrey O'Brien loaned Alexander Wright $100,000 for two months.
"When you're in the throes of investing with him, you don't even think about it," McConnell said. "It's only afterwards you say, 'How could I have done this?' "

Hope Thomas, the ripped-off mother from Satellite Beach who met Wright through a friend, had inherited her money after her parents died in a plane crash in 1974 when she was 2. Wright took her to Key West and baby-sat her son.

"He was always talking about the future, what's the best to do with your future for Noah," Thomas said.

She bought a lot in Indialantic from a company connected to Wright's brother and hired Southern Building Systems to build a new house where she planned to live with her son.

In December, Wright persuaded her to loan him $400,000 from the Merrill Lynch account holding her inheritance. The loan was to be for ten days, but Wright persuaded her to let him keep the money for longer and pay her $20,000 a month. She also had loaned him $150,000 from the sale of a house to invest in the stock market.

Wright still was making payments to Thomas when her roommate told her to "Google" Wright's name online. Newspaper articles detailing his scams came up. In May, checks from Wright started to bounce.

Today, Thomas' two-story yellow house in Indialantic stands unfinished. Contractors have filed liens against Thomas for unpaid bills, including one by Southern Building Systems, Wright's company, for $44,100.

In July, Thomas, who is pregnant, lost one of the twins she was carrying, something she blames on stress. Wright sent her $50 worth of flowers with a card saying he was sorry for her loss.

At first, she was puzzled by the bouquet. "Loss? What does he mean?" Thomas said. "Sorry you lost all your money?"

The florist, Vicki Lichti at Petals Flower & Gift Shoppe, said Wright hasn't paid for the flowers.

In Pinellas, Barfield Bay owns Pinellas Pointe, Plaza Arms, Tanglewood Apartments, Waterside Village Apartments, Palma Ceia and Woodlawn Apartments, all in St. Petersburg; and Norton Apartments in Clearwater.
Barfield Bay Holdings is obviously not the only landlord facing financial issues with maturing loans or overleveraged projects, said T. Sean Lance, managing director at NAI Tampa Bay.
NAI Tampa Bay is tracking 30,000 distressed apartment units in Tampa, Orlando and Southwest Florida, Lance said. “There are a number of ownership groups out there that are in trouble,” he said.
For the most part, foreclosures on apartments don’t affect the tenants, unless maintenance is deferred for financial reasons, Lance said. “Ownership can change without the tenants even realizing it,” he said.

Medical examiner: Randy "Macho Man" Savage died of heart disease

LARGO — Authorities have determined that former wrestling star Randy "Macho Man" Savage died of heart disease.

Savage, 58, whose real name was Randy Poffo, became unresponsive while driving his Jeep Wrangler in Seminole on May 20.

After crossing a median on Park Boulevard, the Jeep jumped a curb and crashed head-on into a tree. Savage was taken to Largo Medical Center and pronounced dead.

His wife, Barbara Poffo, a passenger in the Jeep, suffered minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts, authorities said.

An autopsy by the Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner's Office revealed that Savage had an enlarged heart with severe atherosclerosis of his coronary arteries and more than 90 percent blockage. The cause of death was determined to be atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, or heart disease. The manner of death was determined to be natural.

Savage may not have known that he had heart disease, said Bill Pellan, director of investigations for the Medical Examiner's Office. There was no evidence that he was taking heart medication.

The four-page autopsy report showed he suffered only minor scrapes and bruising from the crash. But it also documented markings on the 255-pound, 6-foot-2 former wrestler's body that spoke of a life in the ring: a trail of tiny scars from his scalp and forehead to his chest, arms and legs. The report also noted "mildly deformed" knuckles.

As is routine, the Medical Examiner's Office tested Savage for evidence of drugs or alcohol. At the time of his death, he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.031, below the level at which the law presumes that someone is impaired.

Savage also had the painkiller hydrocodone in his blood. Pellan said Savage had a prescription for it and that the amount found in his blood was a "therapeutic level" that did not suggest abuse.

Randy seemed to be a good guy and not one of the flakes and bums that can work in that type of entertainment. Randy might even have wanted a little good - like keeping our young athletes of of steroids - to come from his premature death.

No one can bring Randy back - but maybe if one kid gets off his next cycle and stays off - or even better never starts - then something good happened out of a lot of loss and pain.

BobbyOFromDABronx Jul 1, 2011 2:11 AM Less than a minute ago My sister died the same way. I personally believe it was the result of toxins applied to her car and/or to her car engine or radiator. In my car and only in my car and only when it has been left alone unobserved do I and others experience shortness of breath and sometimes anger. You have to open all the windows for awhile and it's still bad. If you keep someone in the car so no one can approach it (and they really have to WATCH as bikers are sneaks and pigs) the car will be fine. Also when it's under security cameras except for at westshore mall. Now you know why the mob always left a goombah with their cars. I wonder about THIS ONE too.

Outside SweetBay on Dale Mabry I caught a guy running from my car. He spoke street spanish and drove a maroon toyota tundra which he leaped in and drove away very very fast down the street between sbay and sonic drive in. I have an alarm on my car and it went off and I was close to the door so I looked out and set down my items and proceeded towards my vehicle. The alarm was blaring and I watched the guy run from my car. I thought I could catch him and get a better look but he drove very very fast and down a longer lane away. I got a pretty good look and he was about mid forties with dark dark short hair, slim build and hard voice. I had a camera running in my car and he discusses his activity. He was NOT STEALING he was putting som substance in my car. I had JUST PARKED IT. No one breaks into a 90's vehicle when there are many others .. plus he knew who I was because he knew to run ...

BROOKSVILLE — Hernando County sheriff's Deputy David Feger has been issued a summons on a charge of driving under the influence, and Sheriff Al Nienhuis has placed Feger on administrative leave without pay.

The summons stems from an April incident in which another motorist called 911 to report that Feger was driving erratically, Col. Michael Maurer said at the time. The motorist followed Feger, 35, to his Spring Hill home and saw him leave his personal vehicle and enter the house.

Deputies arrived shortly after and interviewed Feger, but could not ask him to submit to sobriety field tests because they did not see him driving.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Sgt. Donna Black deferred questions to the State Attorney's Office about why Feger was issued a summons rather than being arrested.

Assistant State Attorney Donald McCathran said Feger was issued a summons for DUI based on the statements of witnesses who recalled seeing Feger leave a bar impaired and driving erratically.

McCathran said it was unusual, but not unheard of, for suspects in DUI cases to be issued a summons in lieu of an arrest. He said he signed off on the summons because he does not expect Feger to miss his hearing.

Feger had been given a letter of reprimand in early 2009 and was required to submit to random drug screenings after an internal investigation determined that he had reported for duty one morning within eight hours of drinking alcohol.

Feger said he had drunk a third of a bottle of whiskey and passed out between midnight and 1 a.m., according to a report.

username1991 Jun 7, 2011 12:21 PM Yesterday allegations/accusations/he said/she said - lead to another lawyer $$$ windfall. so far sheriff office lawyers, state lawyers, union lawyer and personal lawyer working this one. 5+ bagger when judge intervenes. and don't forget the cost associated with all the other gov't personnel who got involved. a stern warning was warranted, and thats all. all the lawyers feel, after all, its just - taxpayer money. great taxpayer $$$ ripoff system the lawyers created for themselves.

He frequents bars and lets it be known his "whores" will give him a ride home. This is not the first time he's been stopped for DUI that I know of. Last time he was lucky and literally cried his way out of that ticket. He's also admitted that he abused pain pills. He's truly deserving of the charges and his many years of crimes are catching up with him. I'm happy he's been charged. Drunk drivers kill innocent people and he took an oath to protect people of just that, not violate the law. Reply

The police snivel about how dangerous their job is but yet it is not mandatory for them to wear a bullet proof vest because they get to fat and uncomfortable. Unions have forgotten that when they organize to protect their own interest by having one body other than OUR SHERIFF decide their fate, the outcomes are funded by PUBLIC MONEY! Police need to follow the chain of command and if they still are not happy they can access the court system to ask for an opinion just like "civilians" have to do. You said he deputy wont even get a traffic ticket, the article clearly stated he got a traffic summons! We all know that had he been a "civilian" he would have been arrested Reply

We only hire from the LEO certificate mills, the badge and gun freaks that have no business in any position of authority. Now he might be able to claim that he wasn't driving, but then he would need to explain the method of travel from the bar to the home and find someone to say they were the one's that drove. On that note I agree with alot of what you said above with the exception of any defense of unions as it appears you did in the first sentence, aside of that like I said I agree with your post. As far as Sgt Kathleen Reid, I do not know this person nor have I ever heard of her so I can not defend or attack her integrity or actions. Where does she work at? Reply

He got hsi job because Hank Earl Carr killed recently promoted Chilly (pam bondi's bud allegedly) Not that I would trust having pam for a friend. It really weirded me out when they interviewed her after he was murdered. THEN we got Bautiste and any decent cop in Tampa was fired probably almost all of them by now. Reply

On that note I agree with alot of what you said above with the exception of any defense of unions as it appears you did in the first sentence, aside of that like I said I agree with your post. As far as Sgt Kathleen Reid, I do not know this person nor have I ever heard of her so I can not defend or attack her integrity or actions. Where does she work at? Reply

I mean sometimes it made you a little surly but ... hey .. BTW they should not have even charged this guy. Clearly they are after him or he was setup becasue ... there is a VERY CLEAR FS requirement to charge with dui and they did NOT have the tenets AT ALL. They also did not arrest (HCSO ampa Police) pregnant Ivette Perez Claudio for pot possession because like many Hillsborough County judges stalker Ivette is a member of the Latin King or other Latino GANGS. Which explains how her man pedro can steal with no problem out there at MCOR which should concern you pasco citizens. A guy from South Tampa bringing hoods to your area to steal from you. He's a window-tinter and alarms and such yet EACH ARREST he has been nole proc. Kinda like a pattern, HUH?? Reply

He's not been set up - he was caught doing what he does at least two times a month, drive while severely impaired. When I say severely, I mean it. I've seen him drunk, get in his car, drive away. Report Abuse 0 3 NoProblem Jun 7, 2011 7:45 PM Yesterday For those of you who say that he should not have been charged, there were wheel witnesses who saw him, they were on the 911 call when he approached the two young girls car to flirt with them and he's a known drunk in every bar in Hernando County. He is truly one bad apple, and yes, I do know him. As for Kathleen Reid Dennis is right, she's very corrupt and she covers up (not too well either) to make citizens look like the liars. He's got many complaints that were unfounded, complaints that disappear after one year from HCSO. He himself bragged to me about this. He's not a good man, an ugly man he is, both inside and out. He's one who became a cop to cover up his own crimes and this is not the first time he's been DUI and been stopped. He was lucky enough to be let go, with no public knowledge of it - however the guy who was with him has a huge mouth and loves telling that story.

There were wheel witnesses that placed him behind the wheel and they were on 911 when he approached them severely impaired, then he refused to cooperate when the cops arrived. HCSO has another employee who was charged due to wheel witnesses and she was convicted. He can be and has been charged and I can almost bet he's not going to lawyer up too well, unless he's union. Knowing people who know him now, he's not financially stable enough to do it, and he darn sure better admit the the crime he was caught doing. If he doesn't I've lost all respect for him - oh wait, I have not one ounce of respect for him prior to this!! I can tell you all a story of what he did to a good friend of mine on Thanksgiving Day, it would knock all of your socks off and his nosiness resulted in the lack of investigation of her nephew being robbed while he laid in a diabetic coma. He stuck his nose in a case he was not even on and violated quite a few laws doing so. He needs fired now Reply

The crash occurred at 11:24 p.m. The traffic deputy who would be responsible for a DUI arrest, Giselle Mulverhill, showed up 1 hour and 24 minutes later at 12:48 a.m., records show."

They had the one guy who was falsifying DUIs and they never went back and corrected the records of his victims and they caught the sheriffs giving other sheriff rides home. Sheriffs here used to be very decent. They would sometimes give CITIZENS a ride home ... some for political reasons but once a friend of mine when he drove his car up on the curb more or less drunk when his father had died unexpectedly the week before. He really was distraught and crying when they found him which does NOT excuse his actions. He could have hurt someone. But they did take him home and have his car towed for him.

Anybody that has lived in this county knows that as 100% fact. What's needed is for a real Governor of the State to intercede and have all reviews done randomly case by case in counties away from Hernando County. That was straighten out the good ole boys and bad apples within five years. The best advice is: NEVER SPEAK to a COP, Period!

BUT, the thought of possibly getting a DUI because a neighbor says they saw me driving drunk scares the hell outta me. I do not agree with that at all. Reprimand him for having alcohol in his system going to work. But I don't think it's right to get him for DUI just because someone said so.
That opens the door to lots of problems. What if your neighbor is ticked off at ya and decides to call police, say they're following you as you're driving erratically like you're drunk. Police go to your home and you now get a DUI because someone said so... That's just not right.
Shoot, if I see someone driving 45 in a 30, can they get a speeding ticket for 50% over the limit? Just wondering...

This officer will get due process. He will be tried in a criminal court, not a referee. I'm being totally consistent. I'm glad you're tired of my drivel. I'm going to keep it up till the sheriff's offices clean up their act. The helicopter pilot needs to be prosecuted. And Deputy Fairie@$$hole needs to be fired. Report Abuse 0 1 DennisPurdy Jun 8, 2011 12:59 PM About 1 hour ago When I was the police chief back in Michigan, the POAM had been trying to years to get a clause into contracts to protect officers from baseless complaints. So when I negotiated the contract with my officers I put in a clause requiring all complaints be sworn before a judge, just like a criminal complaint. We had one complaint after that the commission asked that I investigate. I simply pointed out the clause in the contract. That was the end of it. Now as far as my complaints against the deputies of Hernando and Marion counties, I would be more than happy to sign a complaint in front of the chief judge of any court. I have degrees in the discipline, years of experience in the discipline, and the HCSO is NOT a professional LE organization, far from it. Reply

Father on trial in Pinellas County accused of stalking adult daughter

In spring 2010, Dennis Hobbs wore face paint and a wig to spy on his 18-year-old near an abuse shelter she lived in, police say.


LARGO — Dennis Hobbs is a father who wanted to keep tabs on his 18-year-old daughter because he worried that she was skipping school, smoking and having sex with her boyfriend.

But when St. Petersburg police found Hobbs one night in spring 2010, he was inside his car dressed in black, wearing face paint and a wig, near the abuse shelter where his daughter had gone to live. Inside the car was a loaded gun and detailed notebooks recording her activities.

So, in an unusual case, Hobbs was charged with stalking his own adult daughter and this week went on trial.

It's a strange case because of the goofy wig and the face paint, but in other ways it relates to an issue every parent faces — how far do you go to direct a child, even an adult child?

Defense attorney Denis de Vlaming said Hobbs was simply concerned for a wayward child and wanted to prevent her from making bad choices. He said it would have been a crime for him not to help her.

But Assistant State Attorney Theodora Komninos said Hobbs crossed the line into a criminal case of stalking, and detailed how Hobbs kept approaching and bothering his adult daughter long after she asked him to stay away.

"What this case is about is control and limits," she said.

For her part, daughter Lyndsay Hobbs, now 20, testified that after she learned how her father was dressed in the disguise and near the shelter where she was staying, "I felt more scared for my life than I've ever been."

She said the incident made her fear that "I could have been kidnapped that night and sent anywhere in the world."

Hobbs is 60, and retired after working in computer programing and other technical matters for AT&T. He has no criminal record in Florida. He and his wife now live in Texas, but returned for the trial.

Lyndsay Hobbs is an artist who studied at the highly regarded Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota. But according to testimony this week, her father was concerned about her behavior when she was as young as 16.

He found a birth control pill in her room, disapproved of her boyfriend, believed she had been drinking and discovered risque comments she made on Facebook, which even she now acknowledges were inappropriate. She also was charged with shoplifting.

But prosecutors say Hobbs went too far. He came to see her at her job at a CVS against her will, and came uninvited more than once to her boyfriend's family's house, where she stayed for a time, witnesses testified. Lyndsay Hobbs testified that she got a temporary injunction against her father "because he would not leave me alone." She moved into an abuse shelter to get away from him, and because "I felt more safe there."

But he hired a private investigator and found her. He even knew somehow that she had bought a scooter while at the shelter, even though she never told him that.

He also wanted her to leave Ringling and move along with his wife to Texas, saying she could continue her studies there.

After Hobbs was arrested, police arranged for his daughter to make a secretly recorded phone call to him.

On the rather scratchy recording, which was played in court, she said she was scared of him because he kept stalking her. He denied stalking and said she had been lying.

"I just want to live my life," she said.

"You want to live a life of sex and drugs," he said. He told her he loved her.

"I think you want someone you can control," she said.

The case is expected to go to the all-female jury this afternoon.

No prosecutor really thought he "went too far" or that he was a danger. With all the deal making with really serious criminals, THIS one goes to trial? The judge didn't wonder why someone didn't just tell dad he was overreaching and his daughter is an adult so he should back off? All of these people listen to the girl worry she "could have been kidnapped and sent anywhere in the world?" THIS is how we minimize invasive government? No - this is a prank by the prosecutor and police to see if the Times really does any fact checking. If not, all you PIs tracking cheating spouses better be watching your steps.

If I read right that was before the restraining order? The rest sounds hooey. Sounds like maybe boyfriend or someone has court connections and she was in a BAD crowd which served as witnesses for some reason. My family couldn't get a restraining order when a guy SHOT at them who was already arrested for a prior murder, fleeing to elude and other stuff and subsequently for strangling his wife... so the whole thing sounds OFF. I doubt the gun was for her. The shelter was probably in a bad hood and/or he alwasy carried. I just don't think her story is plausible ..

-If he is paying money to support her - he can just say "18, she moved out, I don't have to support her" and see a lawyer.

While I never had an experience this bad with mine, it was bad enough: running credit checks at least once a year, even though I'd never accepted any money from them after turning 18, running criminal background checks, hiring detectives to have me followed when I was in my late 20's. After the man who fathered me died, I found the dossiers he'd been keeping on me and my siblings containing the above and much more. What a sicko!

He's got some issues that overpower good reasoning and I have a strong feeling it's his religion. Who knows how far he will go to instill his religion in his daughter. He needs to be locked up somewhere, either jail or a mental institution to protect his daughter.

The fact that she got arrested, at one point, for shoplifting, gives us a hint that this young lady may well have been rather dysfunctional and the father quite --- and legitimately -- concerned.

I once had a tenant who, after some time, threw her boyfriend out because he was "too controlling". Shortly after he left, she had succeeded in turning my property into a drug den with people coming and going all hours of the night, much to the consternation of the neighbors who complained to me. Things are not always as they appear....

They completely forget about being a teenager and trying to screw every girl they could get their hands on. I'm sure 99% of men out there were sexually active with other 16 yr olds when they were 16.

Many people are 18 while still in high school. I think the notion of them being adults is foolish.

This man may have gone further than most would, or would feel comfortable seeing others do, but he had reasons to be concerned about his daughter's behavior. Nothing I have read here makes me certain his motives were not well intentioned, despite his unconventional ways.

I remember a wise person saying that you are never finished raising your children. They may be adults, but they are still your children. Of course the wise parent understands that a child who is older and has been living on their own is different than a young kid. Had this person been 40, I would look at it differently.

I sat through over half the testimony, and not once heard evidence that the daughter saw her heard her father do the things stated, she was told by the police and or media. At 18 when these things happened; she was still a young person swayed by what a police officer may tell her at 11 PM at night, she did not see it, she heard it. Last what I heard is a family since 16 years old, taught her to smoke, drink, have sex with the mother full knowledge unknown to the girls parents, and later drugs, they clearly dispised the father and mother and bombarded the girl with that feeling for four years. Seems the girl did not have a chance, she is a victim but not from her father.
